Biographical/Historical Note

The Bahamas were settled in 1647 by the Company of Eleutheran Adventurers, a group of English settlers seeking religious freedom. After the end of the Revolutionary War, approximately 6,000 American loyalists and their slaves settled in The Bahamas.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a microfilm copy of records from the registrar general's office in Nassau, Bahamas. They contain information on wills (1700-1818), dowers (1791-1792), deeds, (1780-1845), indentures (1783-1796), and grants for individuals living in the Bahamas.

The materials were microfilmed by the Registrar General of Nassau, Bahamas, in 1956.
