John Forsyth, Jr. (1812-1877), was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, the U.S. Minister to Mexico, the mayor of Mobile, Alabama, and editor of the Mobile Register.
He was the son and namesake of Georgia senator John Forsyth (1780-1841).
This collection consists of a land grant from Georgia Governor George Washington Towns to John Forsyth, Jr. for 490 acres in Appling County, Georgia on September 30, 1850. Plat and pendant seal are attached.
The plat was originally surveyed on August 3, 1821.
