Biographical/Historical Note

Aileen Knaebel, November 16, 1933- March 6, 1994 was a lifelong resident of Georgia. She lived in Ellabell, Georgia, in Bryan County, where she worked in the education field. She assembled a collection of genealogical information regarding the families of Bryan County to which she was related, including the English, Butler, Shuman, Futch, Cox, Jarrard and Barber families. Many of these families have been in Georgia since the turn of the 19th Century or earlier.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the research notes on the genealogy of the English, Butler, Shuman, Futch, Cox, Jarrard and Barber families of Bryan County, Georgia. The collection was created and assembled by Aileen Knaebel, a resident of Ellabell, Georgia and descendent/relation of the families. The collection contains more papers on the English, Shuman and Futch families than the Butler, Cox, Jarrard and Barber families. Most of Knaebel's notes and correspondence date from the late 1980s and early 1990s; however, the collection includes both original sources and photocopies of documents such a letters, deeds, certificates, ledgers, photographs, receipts and IOUs from 1855 and later.


Arrangement

This collection is arranged into 4 boxes and 1 oversize folder:

Box 1: Binder containing genealogical notes on Bryan County families from 1800 to 1967 using 19th and 20th century Census; Box containing memorial book of Herschell E. English, English family photographs, sympathy cards, 1970. Binder containing photographs of Bryan County families' graves, genealogical notes on Bryan County families from 1800 to 1967 using 19th and 20th century Census; newspaper clippings, 1992; Photocopy 1870 will of Jefferson Butler; Bryan County families correspondence, deeds, and maps, 19th century, Knaebel correspondence and notes, 1987-1992.
