The Savannah Area Convention and Visitors Bureau serves as Savannah, Georgia's destination marketing organization. Its mission is to attract and serve visitors, resulting in increased tax revenue for the city and generation of income and jobs benefiting members of the community.
This collection contains thousands of tourism articles and clippings, thousands of slides of Savannah area attractions and scenes (also known as "destination" slides), a few photographs, and a plan of Hutchinson Island, Georgia, from the Savannah Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Savannah, Georgia. Materials date from the 1970s to 2006.
Majority of the clippings and articles were prepared by Bacon's, a media clipping service. Most of the clippings are loose and roughly housed in boxes by year. Also included are entire magazines with a single article about Savannah. It appears a numerical system for organizing the slides by subject was used at some point. However, only a small portion of the slides were in order by number/subject upon donation. As a result, researchers will likely need to search in more than one box for their subject of interest.
This collection is arranged into 10 boxes and 1 roll:
