Biographical/Historical Note

Aplin Kelley was a Union soldier in the 2nd Division, 4th Corps, of the Army of the Cumberland. He was from Claysville, Ohio.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains eight letters written by Kelley to his mother in Claysville, Ohio. The letters range in date from on written near Tunnel Hill on May 8, 1864 to Kelley's last letter, written in the U.S. Hospital for the 2nd Division on June 23, 1864. The letters describe in detail the Union Army's advances from Chattanooga as they campaigned toward Atlanta. The letters end after Kelley was wounded near Marietta, Georgia on June 22, 1864.
