Benjamin Gammon was born on 7 July 1814 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was the son of John H. and Mary Ann Bissett Gammon. Gammon married Deborah Pratt (1814-1897) on 9 May 1841 in Savannah, Georgia. He became a U.S. citizen in Savannah in 1854. The couple had the following five children: Rachel Ann (1843- ), Penthicilea Elizabeth (1845-1934), Jane Elizabeth Pratt (1847-1936), Benjamin (1850-1850), and John Alexander (1852-1928). Gammon died in 1893 in Savannah.
This collection contains a photocopy of a letter from Benjamin Gammon in Savannah, Georgia to his brother Samuel Gammon in New Brunswick, Canada. The letter is dated 4 April 1876.
