Scope and Content Note

This collection contains research materials including books, research notes, maps, bibliographies, genealogies, and newspaper clippings collected by Louisa Heeth Olson from 1951 to 1982 on the colonial histories of Dorchester, Massachusetts; Dorchester, South Carolina, and Midway, Georgia and genealogical information on the settlers in these areas up until the end of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Her research details the migration of settlers from these locations, starting in 1630 when a group of men and women migrated from Dorchester, England to settle in Dorchester, Massachusetts. This group of settlers then had a part in a later migration to South Carolina in 1695, when they decided to form another Congregational Church community in Dorchester, S.C. Later from 1752 to 1770, when looking for additional land for future expansion and wanting to stay together as a church group, the Dorchester settlers bought land in Midway, Georgia and began a new congregation there as well.
