Biographical/Historical Note

Moses Sheftall (1769-1835), son of Mordecai and Frances Hart Sheftall, and husband of Nellie Bush Sheftall was born in Savannah, Georgia. He left Savannah in 1791 to study medicine. He returned to Savannah in 1793 and established a medical practice that he operated until his death. He also held a variety of civic positions. He died on June 10, 1835, in Savannah.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the letter of resignation of Moses Sheftall, Justice of the Inferior Court of Chatham County. Letter directed to Justices John P. Williamson, Oliver Sturges, Thomas N. Morel and Thomas E. Lloyd. Savannah, July 19, 1820.
