Biographical/Historical Note

Lillian Gray Porter (1896-1977) worked various jobs in Savannah during her lifetime, including clerk for the Savannah District of the Army Corp of Engineers and United States Veterans Administration. She lived most of her adult life at 216 East State Street, Apt. #2, with her brother George A. Porter (1887-1948). George worked at the Central of Georgia Railway.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains two series. Series 1 contains information about Lillian’s jobs, such as with the Savannah District Corp of Engineers and the United States Veterans Administration (Box 2). Also, the series includes work related and personal correspondence from friends and World War II soldiers (Box 1, Folder 1). Within Box 1, Folder 1, there is a stamp size photograph of a World War II soldier. Lastly, the collection contains information about charities, which Lillian organized, such as the United Community Appeal, the March of Dimes, and the Red Cross. Series 2 contains information regarding George A. Porter. Within the series, there are work related correspondences from the Central Georgia Railway Company and other correspondences from friends and World War II soldiers.
