Marvin B. Gillis is a native of Treutlen County, Georgia. He earned his education at the University of Georgia and Cornell University and is a retired executive of the International Minerals and Chemical Corporation. Gillis spends his time between Glenview, Illinois and St. Simon's Island. In the 1980s, he began a volume on the Gillis genealogy from his own personal research in order to preserve a record of this information. In 1988 he published, Gillis and other pioneer families of Georgia: ancestral families of the author and followed it with a second edition is 2000.
This collection contains the correspondence, genealogical charts, genealogies, and research materials Marvin B, Gillis used in order to compile his book, Gillis and other pioneer families of Georgia: ancestral families of the author from 1989-2000. Families represented in the collection include Barwick, Beasley, Benson, East, Gillis, Humphrey, Kea, Key, MacQuaig, Miller, Parker, Parrish, Rowell, Tapley, and Whiddon. Also included is a signed copy of his book.
