Biographical/Historical Note

Harold J. Hart was a Sergeant in the 7th Photo Technical Squadron stationed at the 36th Base Headquarters and Air Base Squadron at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.


Scope and Content Note

Majority of this collection is made up of loose photographs most likely taken by Sgt. Harold J. Hart while he was a member of the 7th Photo Technical Squadron stationed at the 36th Base Headquarters at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia from 1943 to 1945. These photographs show soldiers in various activities while training at the Hunter Army Airfield and also when the squadron was deployed to Bally, India as part of the India-Burma theater of World War II. Also included in this collection are correspondence, newsletters, pamphlets, technical manuals for army equipment, a uniform shirt, military badges, a wallet, and a banner for Hunter Army Airfield.

Folder 1: Clippings, correspondence and certificate, 1944-1945
Clippings include Hindustan Standard newspaper, September 15 and 20, 1945 and the India-Burma Theater Roundup June 21 and July 26, 1945. The correspondence includes a Christmas card from Helen to Harold Hart, two letters from Biowa hath Ghosh, as well as various addresses for individuals. The certificate is for Harold Hart's completion of the Third Air Force Camouflage School in 1944. There is also a photostat identifying oneself as an allied soldier in several languages and a manual on calculating distance from aerial photographs.
