Biographical/Historical Note

Lucy Jenkins and Will Showers resided in Savannah, Georgia. Lucy Jenkins worked as a farm laborer as a young girl. Later in life she resided at 414 W. Gwinnett Lane and was the widow of Hirms Jenkins. Her estimated birth date is 1856 and she lived to be over 100 years of age.

Will Showers resided at 526 Oak Street and his wife's name was Maggie J. Showers. According to Georgia death records in Ancestry.com, Will Showers died in Chatham County at the age of 65 on September 3, 1957 and his wife died at the age of 55 on May 22, 1957.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains two photographs. One photograph is of Mrs. Lucy Jenkins at the age of 101, standing in front of her house at 414 W. Gwinnett Lane in Savannah, Georgia. The other photograph is of Will Showers seated on the porch of his house at 536 Oak Street in Savannah, Georgia. The photograph of Will Showers states he is age 90. However, Georgia death records indicate he was probably in his mid 60s when the photograph was taken.
