Hallie Lancaster Fling (1927-1999) was born in Mobile, Alabama, and lived in Savannah for 38 years. She married Gerald G. Fling and had three children. Hallie Fling attended American University in Washington D.C. and worked for many years at the Chatham-Effingham-Liberty Regional Library. Fling was a noted professional genealogist and worked as a researcher, too. She was active in numerous organizations, including the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Royal Charter Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, and The Savannah Chapter No. 2, United Daughters of the Confederacy.
This collection contains primarily genealogical materials. The collection is arranged in four series: Family Genealogies (Series 1). Subject Files (Series 2), State Files (Series 3), Country Files (Series 4). Family genealogies are arranged alphabetically and consist primarily of Mrs. Fling's research about those families. Materials include photocopies of primary and secondary sources some dating from circa 1750; applications to various patriotic organizations, and miscellaneous notes. The Avant and Lancaster families are heavily documented in this collection. Subject files are also arranged alphabetically and consist primarily of research pertaining to various subjects ranging from cemeteries to genealogical methods of research. State files consist of materials regarding research in or about specific states, particularly county and local histories which may have genealogical materials. Country files consist of research materials in or about specific countries, especially within the United Kingdom. Materials include local histories and genealogical research.
The collection remained with Hallie Fling until her death.
