Gwinnett County was established on December 15, 1818, from lands ceded by Cherokee and Creek Indians. It was named for Button Gwinnett, one of Georgia's signers of the Declaration of Independence. Lawrenceville, the county seat, was incorporated on December 15, 1821.
This collection consists of a microfilmed copy of a consolidated index to marriages, Book 1, 1818-1965. The records are indexed by the male.
This index was microfilmed by the Georgia Department of Archives and History in 1973.
