Biographical/Historical Note

Julie Houstoun Roser resides in Delray Beach, Florida.

The Houstoun family were early settlers in Georgia. Charles Mallory Harper was married to Georgeanna Anna Houstoun McDonald, who was a relative of Patrick Houstoun. Harper served in the Civil War in Company E of the Georgia 8th Infantry Regiment. He died in 1910.


Scope and Content Note

This collection contains indentures, diaries, letters, clippings, and a family history from 1787 to 1838 regarding members of the Houstoun family and Charles Mallory Harper, who was related to the Houstoun family through marriage. Majority of this collection is made up of letters and diaries written by Harper while he served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1864.
