Sir John Perceval, Earl of Egmont (1683-1748) was the first president of the Trustees of Georgia. He was born in county Cork, Ireland and was educated at Westminster School in London and at Magdalen College in Oxford. In 1703, he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for County Cork. He was elected to the British House of commons for Harwich in 1727, a position he held until 1734. In 1733, Perceval was made the Earl of Egmont in Ireland.
This collection consists of a microfilm copy of the Earl of Egmont's "A List of persons who went from Europe to Georgia on their own account, or at the Trustees charge, or who joined (joined) the Colony, or were born in it distinguishing such as had Grants there or were only Inmates." The manuscript is divided into two sections, the second being "An Account of Lands granted by the Trustees of Georgia to persons gone at their own expense," dated May 9, 1739. This list is divided into date of grant, name, number of acres, number of servants and amount of acres promised to each, total servant acres, when arrived in Georgia, where they settled, whether they died or left their land, and notes.
The first portion of the manuscript, contains the following information pertaining to settlers arriving before 1742: name, occupation, when embarked, when arrived, number of lots in Savannah, number of lots in Frederica, and whether the person died, quit, or ran away from the colony. The lists are divided between pages for those that arrived of their own expense and those people on the "charity" or "poor" account. The accounts are alphabetical by surname.
