Biographical/Historical Note

The Georgia Historical Society was founded by Richard D. Arnold, William Bacon Stevens, and Israel K. Tefft, all Savannah residents. It was chartered in 1839 by the Georgia General Assembly. The headquarters of the Georgia Historical Society is located in Savannah.

Scope and Content Note

This is an artificial collection created by the Georgia Historical Society by compiling sheet music from various sources into a single collection. It is unknown when this collection was created, but most of the materials were processed during the 1980s. The sheet music covers various dates, with a strong concentration in 19th century music. The collection is arranged by sheet number. An index is available (2 card file boxes located by the Finding Aids) and necessary for searching the collection. It is arranged by song title and by composer. Also included are four music books.

This collection includes a box of negatives; they are restricted from patron use.
