This collection consists of James Vernon McDonough's research notes, rough draft, and carbon copy of the final draft of his dissertation on William Jay. McDonough collected information concerning William Jay and his contemporaries in the early 19th century in preparation for his doctoral dissertation at Princeton University in 1950. Numerous photographs and negatives of Savannah buildings are included in this collection, including the Albion Chapel; Artel House; the Bank of the State of Georgia; Barker House; Barrow-Stoddard House; Branch Bank of U.S.; Bulloch-Habersham House; Champion-McAlpion House; Chatham County Court House; City Hotel; Cranston-Elliott House; 314 E.
