Biographical/Historical Note

Earl Daniel Alexander (1878-1941) was born in Springfield, Ohio, and moved to Savannah, Georgia, in 1899. He was a pressman, painter, and (for thirty-four years) a police officer. In 1905, he was president of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators, and paper Hangers of America.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of military records and correspondence from Earl Daniel Alexander's military career in the United States Army, including the Spanish-American War and World War I, as well as his service in the National Guard of Georgia, where his marksmanship won him several citations. Also included are documents from his membership in the Knights of Pythias and the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators, and Paper Hangers of America.
