Biographical/Historical Note

John D. Battle (1912-1999) was born in Georgia. He spent his later years in Cleveland, Ohio.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of deeds, a promissory note, a complaint regarding a loan repayment, and a speech. The deeds are for land in Greene County, Georgia, and trace the history of the land's ownership from 1862, when it was owned by John Davis, until 1932, when it was bought by John D. Battle. The speech in this collection was written to rouse a group of soldiers about to go into battle during the Civil War. It is attributed to John Adams of Washington, Georgia. The Battle and Adams families were joined by marriage.
