|
Gordon Saussy (1874-1952) was mayor of Savannah, Georgia, Ordinary of Chatham County, State port pioneer, and agriculturalist. He was the son of Robert Saussy and Gertrude L. Keller Saussy. He married Harriet Saussy Varnedoe and was step-father to Samuel Lamartine Varnedoe.
Hattie Saussy (circa 1891-1978) was the daughter of Joachim Radcliffe Saussy (1862-1904) and Rachel Louise Shivers Saussy. Hattie was a prominent artist and patron of the arts in Savannah, belonging to the Savannah Art Association and the Association of Georgia Artists.
This collection contains information on the Saussy family as well as related families, including the Calais, Chapin, Chipman, Cornwell, Tiedeman, and Varnedoe families. The collection contains correspondence between Gordon Saussy and Hattie Saussy, papers from Gordon Saussy's legal practice, documentation of the creation of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 8 in Savannah, and family photographs.
