Biographical/Historical Note

Charles E. Palmer was a Captain in the 7th Connecticut Volunteers and in command of the Grant Battery during the Siege of Fort Pulaski in 1862.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a letter from Charles E. Palmer to Steve Hubbard about the siege of Fort Pulaski by the Union soldiers during the Civil War. Also included in this collection is a copy of a drawing by Robert E. Lee of Cockspur Island and a map of the fortifications.
