Biographical/Historical Note

William H. May (ca. 1812-1884) was a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He moved to Savannah, Georgia, in approximately 1844. His company, W.H. May and Co., manufactured harnesses and saddles. May was also an honorary member of the Chatham Artillery.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of two ledgers for the W.H. May and Co. in Savannah, 1850-1853 and 1858-1860. They contain accounts of the business of manufacturing harnesses and saddles. Inserted into the second volume are documents and letters concerning the business.
