William D. Saffold (1919-1978) lived in Chatham County, Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Army for service during World War II on January 16, 1941 at Fort McPherson in Atlanta.
This collection consists of William D. Saffold's papers pertaining to his service during World War II. Included are an order to report for induction into the army, a temporary promotion certificate, Saffold's immunization record, a movement control order, and a paper related to the Presidential Citation to the 1st Air Commando Group, Burma Theatre. Also included is a letter from Jacob L. Devers to William D. Saffold, written from Washington, D.C., 1945; the letter thanks Saffold for his services during the war. These papers are photocopies.
The original papers were in the possession of William D. Saffold in 1978.
