Biographical/Historical Note

The International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons began on January 13, 1886 in New York City. Its purpose is the development of spiritual life and the stimulation of Christian activities. In 1887, men and boys were allowed into the order; its name changed with the addition of "Sons" in 1891. Margaret Bottome was the order's first president, serving until her death in 1906. Mary Lowe Dickinson was the General Secretary of the order until her death in 1914. The Georgia Branch did charity work with the incurably ill.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of papers from the Georgia Branch of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, as well as the Orders in Augusta and Savannah. The papers include meeting minutes from the Georgia State Convention in 1907 and 1902, annual meeting minutes, prayers, clippings, a brief history of the Memorial Band Order, letters, and other printed materials. The papers span from 1897 to 1938.
