Biographical/Historical Note

Maryanne Stiles (1802-1869) was born in Savannah, Georgia the daughter of Robert and Eliza McQueen Mackay. She married Benjamin E. Stiles (1794-1855) on January 25, 1825.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a letter written on March 10, 1825 by Maryanne Stiles to Elizabeth Gilpin of Kentmire, Delaware. The letter discusses the upcoming visit of General Lafayette to Savannah, Georgia and social life there.
