The Savannah Polo Club was organized on November 3, 1924. It was formed by a group of officers of the Georgia National Guard for the purpose of promoting and enjoying polo. Membership was open to members of the United States Army and Navy. The final match was played on February 24, 1929. The club was succeeded by the Artillery Polo Club which lasted only a few months.
This collection consists of the minutes of the Savannah Polo Club from November 1, 1924, through April 8, 1930. The minute book includes the club's constitution and bylaws, a short history of the club, and a list of members and dues paid. There is also a scrapbook covering the years 1924 through 1931. The scrapbook contains notices of games with newspaper clippings, notes, and tickets for admission. The collection also contains nine photographs of members of the Savannah Polo Club. There are two copies of one image. Five photographs show club members posing on their horses while three show the game in play. One photograph identifies its subject as "E.L. Summerlin."
The folder of photographs is noted as "VM" (visual materials) in the collection inventory.
