William H. Teasdale (ca. 1873-1949), a native of Durham, England, arrived in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 17. He married may Silva in 1900. He was the Superintendent of the Cotton Exchange for 35 years, until his death in 1949. The Cotton Exchange building was opened in Savannah, Georgia in 1887. The site, at the foot of Drayton Street, was obtained by an act of the Georgia General Assembly in 1885. Also in 1885, a city ordinance granted permission to bridge the slip at the foot of Drayton Street upon which the building would be erected. William Gibbons Preston of Boston, Massachusetts, was the architect and construction began in1886.
This collection consists of one volume of minutes concerning the construction and dedication of the Savannah Cotton Exchange building. The volume includes a photograph, taken in March, 1886, of the slip and building site, a copy of a drawing of the front elevation, and a blueprint of the building site.
