Biographical/Historical Note

Joseph Phillip Saffold (1812-1853) was a lawyer in Alabama. He was born in Wilkes County, Georgia. He married Frances E. Bibb in 1845. Saffold died in Montgomery, Alabama.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a letter from J.P. Saffold in Cahawba, Alabama, to David Dagett and S.J. Hitchcock of New Haven Connecticut, 1837. In the letter, Saffold recommends Benjamin Yancey, who is entering Yale Law School to Dagett and Hitchcock, teachers at Yale Law School, and gives news of himself.
