Hiram Roberts (1806-1880) was born in South Carolina but moved to Savannah, Georgia, at an early age. In Savannah he was a merchant in the dry goods business. He served on the Savannah City Council and was a member of the Georgia Hussars.
This collection consists of two receipts, one to Hiram Roberts and the other to his firm, Roberts & Tillman. The first receipt, dated 1860, is for a $100 payment for two shares in Vernon Shell Road Company. The second receipt, dated 1870, is for two shares, $100 each, in the Savannah & Florida Steam Packet Company.
