Charles Gardner Mills (1914-1975) was born in Griffin, Georgia. He was educated at the University of North Carolina, the University of Virginia and the University of Florence, Italy. In the 1950s he lived in Savannah for five years, taught English at Benedictine School and was president of both the Poetry Society of Georgia and the Friends of the Library. While he was living in Savannah, Mills' novel, The Alexandrians, a "best seller," was published.
This collection consists of manuscripts and galley proofs for two of Charles Gardner Mills' novels, The Choice (N.Y.: Macmillan, 1943) and The Alexandrians (N.Y., Putnam, 1952).
