Biographical/Historical Note

Timothy Matlock (d.1829) was a Revolutionary patriot and state official in Pennsylvania. He was employed as an assistant to Charles Thomson (1729-1824), secretary of the Continental Congress, and it was in this capacity that he prepared the handwritten text of the Declaration of Independence. -- From Dictionary of American Biography (1961) VI, 409-410.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains two letters written by Timothy Matlock, Revolutionary patriot and state official in Pennsylvania. The first letter is a photocopy; the location of the original is unknown. The second letter was given to Georgia Historical Society by Arthur J. Funk, Savannah, Georgia ,circa 1959-1975.
