Biographical/Historical Note

Born in Caswell County, North Carolina, Lancelot Johnston moved to Georgia was a resident of Morgan County. He married Margaret Jones. Johnston is credited with having perfected the process of extracting oil from cotton seed. He also invented the cotton seed huller.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of three deeds, two for land in Madison, Georgia, and one in Morgan County, Georgia, all to Lancelot Johnston, as well as a court order for Coleman Strange to pay Lancelot Johnston mortgage and interest, 1823, and a suit for debt, Lancelot Johnston vs. Baldwin Copeland and John F. Johnson, 1866.
