Robert Hutchison was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He arrived in Savannah in 1820 and established himself as a merchant. In 1835 he was elected director of the Steamboat Company of Savannah.
This collection consists of a letter from Robert Hutchison to Calvin Durand, November 11, 1841. In the letter, Hutchison places an order for wine and discusses instructions for payment. He also mentions family news. Durand was with Messrs. Goodhue & Co. in New York. Hutchison signs his name as "R. Hutchison;" he was identified as Robert through the Savannah newspaper index.
