John de Bruyn Kops was born in Holland on August 28, 1827. He moved to Savannah, Georgia, in 1867, where he was a cotton merchant. He was also consul to the Netherlands. Jane W. Davidson of Charleston, South Carolina, later became Mrs. John de Bruyn Kops of Savannah. They had three children: Julian, William, and Mrs. Matthew Hopkins.
The collection consists of two commonplace books and greeting cards. One book belonged to John de Bruyn Kops, the other belonged to Jane W. Davidson. The collection also includes Christmas greeting cards, some cross stitch patterns, and a photograph of I.S.K. Axson.
