Esther Goldsmith (1776-1866) was a native of Charleston, South Carolina. While living in Savannah, Georgia, Esther maintained a residence at the corner of Montgomery and South Broad streets. Her daughter, Henrietta, was hospitalized at the Georgia State Lunatic Asylum near Milledgeville, Georgia. Henrietta, a native of Savannah, was born in 1820. She died December 1, 1873 in the asylum of pneumonia.
This collection contains correspondence and accounts regarding the estate of Esther Goldsmith as kept by her executor, Dr. Richard D. Arnold. Also included are receipts for care of the Goldsmith residence, city taxes, and an insurance policy issued May 6, 1877, by the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company for the house at Montgomery and South Broad Streets, Savannah, Georgia. Several items pertain to the care, illness, death, and funeral of Henrietta Goldsmith, a ward of Dr. Arnold.
