According to the statement in the front of the daybook, signed by both partners, Pettingill & Goff began business on November 2, 1818, as a firm of Moses Pettingill and Robert S. Goff. The partnership was dissolved May 8, 1819. Charles Goff later became a partner. They were commission merchants in Savannah.
The collection consists of the business records of Pettingill & Goff, including letter books, a day book, and an account book. There is an index in the front of the second letter book, and an index in the account book.
