Biographical/Historical Note

Allen Gay (1765-1847), a native of North Carolina, moved to Georgia around the year 1785. At the age of 16, he volunteered to take his father's place as a soldier in the Revolutionary War when his father was called for a one-year tour of duty. Gay fought in the 1st Battalion under Colonel Dickerson, in Captain Robert Raford's Company.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a manuscript, "Sketch of the life & revolutionary incidents of Allen Gay," undated and unsigned.
