Ira R. Foster was Quartermaster General of the state of Georgia, serving under Governor Joseph E. Brown. He was a resident of Cherokee County, Georgia.
The collection consists of a letter from Ira R. Foster, Quarter Master General, to Colonel E.M. Galt, 1864. In the letter, Foster praises the bravery of Galt's men and discusses the requisition of shoes and a wagon, as Galt was a colonel of the 1st Regiment, Georgia State Line, during the Civil War.
