Biographical/Historical Note

William G. DeLony (d. 1863) was a lawyer in Athens, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia General Assembly. In 1861, he resigned his position in the Assembly to serve as Lt. Col. of Cobb's Georgia Cavalry during the Civil War. DeLony was taken prisoner and died of wounds in Washington, D.C. in 1863 (for obituary, see Southern Watchman, February 17, 1864, published in Georgia Historical Quarterly, XIX, December 1935).

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a clipping of a published poem dedicated to DeLony upon his death, signed M.T.G. and dated October 15, 1863, and an undated manuscript poem about a person's death, presumably, DeLony.
