The Georgia Militia organized as a result of the Colonial Acts of 1755 and 1773. Each male in the state between the ages of 16 and 60 was required to register within his militia district.
This collection consists of a Chatham County Militia record dated December 3, 1790. The record, from the Government House, Augusta, Georgia, establishes the arrangement and rank of the Chatham County militia and orders the commissions of appointed officers who had not yet received them.
