Jacob R. Brooks (1787-1872) was a Major in the U. S. Army and in later years operated a ferry in DeKalb County, Georgia. In 1833, Brooks became the first state Senator from Cobb County, Georgia and in the same year became an Indian agent for Cobb County.
This collection consists of a lexicon of the Cherokee language compiled by Jacob R. Brooks of DeKalb County, Georgia and presented to Colonel W. W. Hazzard of Glynn County, Georgia. This inventory includes nouns, numerals and other miscellaneous terms. It gives the Cherokee names of the members of the Georgia Legislature in 1830 as well as a history of the Cherokee tribe in the state.
Material was acquired by William W. Hazzard from the creator.
