Biographical/Historical Note

John Watrus Beckwith (1831-1890) was an Episcopalian Bishop of Georgia from 1868 until his death. Before becoming Bishop of the Diocese of Georgia, he was rector at various churches. After being ordained bishop, he lived in Macon, Savannah (1870-1874), Marietta, and Atlanta, where he died. Additional information on the Rt. Rev. Beckwith may be found in the Journals of the Conventions of The P. E. Church in Georgia, volume six, 1891-1894.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of church records kept by John Watrus Beckwith, including sermons, baptisms, marriages, and burials of All Hallow's Parish, Maryland, 1856-1860. Also included are personal accounts and records of his Georgia ministry from 1863-1890. While primarily a private diary of his ministry, it does contain some burial, baptismal, and marriage records.
