Samuel Beckcom (1760-1825) was born in Granville, North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Houghton (1769-1805). Beckcom died in Milledgeville, Georgia.
This collection consists of two land grants, 1,000 acres each, in Washington County, Georgia, granted by the State of Georgia to Samuel Beckcom. The grants are dated May 11, 1793. The grants are signed by Governor Edward Telfair. Each grant has attached a certificate of survey signed by T. McCall, Surveyor General, whose signature is witnessed by Sherwodd Beckcom and Wm. Neil, in one case, and M.M. Neelon, in the other case. Other signatures appearing on the survey certificates are: Joseph Session Deputy Surveyor and F. Tennill, S.W.L., Jno. Gibbons Trustee in the Surveyor General's office. No adjacent property owners are identified on the sketch or in the description. Both were recorded by John Milton, Secretary of the State. The grants are registered in Book YYY folios 176 and 206. One grant has a pendant seal.
