Biographical/Historical Note

Reverend Theodore Beekman Bartow (1806-1869), was the son of Jacob M. and Eliza F. Bartow. He was ordained on April 25, 1830 and became the rector of Christ Church, Frederica, St. Simons Island, Georgia (1830-1841). Bartow also served as rector of St. David's Church, Glynn County, Georgia. He married Isabella H. Couper (1815-1841) of St. Simons; after her death in 1841, he became a chaplain in the U.S. Navy and moved to New Hampshire. He retired from service on November 1, 1868. He and Isabella had two children: William and Isabelle.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of an address entitled "Memoir of Frederica," written by Theodore B. Bartow and read before the Georgia Historical Society, Savannah, Georgia, September 9, 1839. The address was later published in the Georgia Historical Quarterly (1917).
