Biographical/Historical Note

Spencer Roane Atkinson (1852-ca. 1920), born in Camden County, Georgia, was a judge of the Superior Court in the Brunswick, Georgia judicial circuit, Associate Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, and a member of the Georgia Assembly.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of correspondence to and from Spencer Roane Atkinson for the period 1887-1893. The correspondence relates to legal and political matters, especially Atkinson's race for Congress in which he was defeated. A detailed index to the correspondents follows the inventory. The collection is arranged chronologically.
